BT Group: number of EE mobile customers in the UK 2018, by type

Postpay customers made up the vast majority of EE Mobile’s customer base in 2018, with approximately 17.6 million subscribers on this form of contract. The company also had 5.55 prepay customers, and 3.69 million customers under mobile virtual network operators. As of March 2018, the company provided a service for 29.56 million mobile accounts.

Post-paid plans increasing in popularity

National figures reveal that EE is not the only company to see an increase in the number of customers choosing post-paid mobile plans. In 2010, 47 percent of the 84.7 million mobile subscribers in the United Kingdom, chose to go on a post-paid contract. By 2018, this figure skyrocketed to 72 percent of the nation’s 92.07 million subscribers.

Post-paid customers are active customers

On average, post-paid customers are far more active users of their phones than their pre-paying counterparts. While pre-paid customers spent an average of 67.38 minutes talking on the phone in 2018, post-paid customers registered an average of 219.8 minutes per customer.
